Choosing workshop lighting and heating

• Light output: compare lumens, beam spread and mounting or positioning options with the bay or task area.
• Power source: check mains voltage, cable length or battery-platform compatibility for portable lighting.
• Environment: consider IP rating, impact resistance and suitability for dusty or damp workshop areas where specified.
• Heat output: compare heater kW or BTU output with the size, insulation and ventilation of the space.
• Fuel and ventilation: diesel, kerosene or gas-fired heaters can have specific ventilation and indoor-use requirements that must be followed.
• Controls: thermostat, heat settings, timer and fan controls can improve practical workshop use.
• Air movement: for fans, compare airflow, diameter, speed settings and positioning with the area to be ventilated.
• Clearance: maintain the manufacturer's required distances from vehicles, combustibles and work areas.
